Ducks 4, Blue Jackets 3: The team that leads the league in penalty minutes finally drew a few of their own to help them defeat Columbus in OT last night. Forward Chris Perry, who was benched for the entire 3rd period on Saturday because of stupid penalties, responded by drawing two penalties, including the one that led Chris Pronger’s game winning goal. Wouldn’t it be great if the Ducks could somehow get the Spanish soccer announcer ,who screams goal, to call their overtime games? Imagine. Senor Pronger with the shot. GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL! GOAL! GOAL! GOAAAAAAALLLLL! These are the things I think about while watching a game.
Kings 4, Canucks 2: It was a battle of the backup goalies filling in for starters with injured ribs last night at Staples, as J.S. Aubin outplayed Curtis Sanford to lead the Kings to victory. The game was a tad on the chippy side as there were multiple scuffles and game misconducts handed out throughout the contest. I’d be punching people in the face too if I knew that one loss tied me with the Capitals in the race for the #1 pick in the draft (i.e. last place in the NHL).

Clippers at Nets (4:30 p.m. PST, KTLA the CW): Speaking of last place…the Clips travel to Jersey to take on a team that has, what do you call it? Oh yeah, a point guard. The Clippers have too many possessions like this one discussed over at Clip Nation because they don’t have a floor general right now (my apologies to Brevin Knight) who can get them quality shots in crucial possessions. The Clippers need to figure it out, and fast, because if there was a time to string some victories together, this road trip would be that time. If only Teen Wolf were available.

- Teen Wolf isn’t coming to save the Clips that’s for sure and apparently, at least in the immediate future, Sam Cassell isn’t coming either.
- Coach K and……Coach D? Recently fired Karl Dorrell is interviewing for the head coaching position at Duke. Don’t do it Karl — that job is the Billy Baldwin position in the college sports coaching world.
- Pete Carroll squashes the rumor that they are going to lose another offensive coordinator to a more lucrative position.
- Curious how Love and Mayo stack up against other superstar freshmen? The Times has got your back.
- New Laker Trevor Ariza is starting to get his mojo back since coming over from the Magic.
- UCLA’s D is as good as it was last year thanks in large part to the man with the flaming mohawk.
C O L U M N S . . .
- Steve Dilbeck of the Daily News is going to do what all other sportswriters, sports channels, and sports radio stations need to do for mine and every other sports fan’s sanity. Stop talking about Michael Vick. Vick was once again beaten into my head yesterday with ESPN’s sentencing coverage and the incessant Vick discussion during that putrid MNF game.
- The Clippers might be terrible, but announcers Ralph Lawler and Mike Smith still give fans a reason to watch according to Bill Dwyre of the Times. Sorry Dwyre, count me out of a Brandless, Livingstonless, and Casselless Clipper experience.
- SportsHubLA’s Column of the Day: NBA player, head basketball coach, tennis coach, Harvard professor, Senator, motivational speaker, businessman. No, this isn’t seven straight lives for Dr. Sam Beckett on the 80s show Quantum Leap. It’s all the potential jobs that Lakers coach Phil Jackson has and could possibly hold in his life, according to Kevin Ding of the OC Register. Apparently the Zen master is a true renaissance man. I think he chose the right path though. You know, the path that leads to paychecks of 12 million dollars a year.
