Finally, Progress: Canter’s Hits Chavez Ravine
By Brian Kamenetzky | Los Angeles Dodgers
Over the last couple of years, I’ve taken a ton of flak at the Blue Notes blog my brother and I host for the LATimes.com because of my distaste for the venerable Dodger Dog. As far as ballpark dogs go, the DD, quite frankly, sucks. Even grilled, they’re still pretty lousy, which is part of the reason that despite it’s incredible atmosphere and unique feel, the food at Dodger Stadium is actually rather craptastic. (Nothing like abundantly ordinary concessions at top dollar prices!) But that might change now that Canter’s, the fabled LA institution, will be opening a stand at the Ravine in time for Opening Day. Mrs. Beasley’s, Camacho’s, and Ruby’s Diner will also have space along the concourses, but honestly, all I really care about is the addition of Canter’s.
I shudder to think what a corned beef will cost, given the Fairfax location’s relative priciness and the established economics of Dodger Stadium, but does that really matter when I can now enjoy a game with a hot sammy? Or a matzo ball soup? (Are they really going to serve that? Can you enjoy soup during a baseball game?) Or some killer pickles?
I think not.
