USC Has !&@#loads of NFL Quality Talent
By Brian Kamenetzky | College Football, USC
Not that there was really any question about Pete Carroll’s program, of course, but just to prove the point the Trojans sent seven players to the pro ranks on day one of the NFL Draft. They are as follows:
First Round
Sedrick Ellis, DT (7)- New Orleans
Keith Rivers, OLB (9)- Cincinnati
Sam Baker, OT (21)- Atlanta
Lawrence Jackson, DE (28)- Seattle
Second Round
Chilo Rachal, OG (39)- San Francisco
Fred Davis, TE (48)- Washington
Terrell Thomas, CB (63)- New York Football Giants
Baker was considered a bit of a stretch at 21, but he’d have likely gone later in the first or early in the second, so it’s not like he blew the roof off expectations. Some mocks had Jackson going in the first, others in the second, so his selection at 28 by the Seahawks wasn’t a big shock. Davis goes to a Redskins team desperately looking to diversify its attack, and Rachal should be able to play quickly on a wretched San Francisco team. Thomas could be the biggest wild card. He’s got the size and strength to play safety and corner, but had trouble staying healthy in college.
The Parade of Trojans should continue into Sunday’s Day Two, with rounds three through seven. Stay tuned.
