We always support efforts to revive cool traditions in local sports (or have for our glorious six months or so of existence). With that in mind, we’d like to throw our support behind a petition started by 710 ESPN.com’s Dave Dameshek and circulated by LA Times.com USC/UCLA blogger Adam Rose to get the Trojans and Bruins wearing home unis when they play each other each year.
They did it in the days of yore, back when they shared the Coliseum. To do so now that they’re in separate quarters would require special dispensation from the NCAA, always a bastion of flexibility, so the more people who get on board- Rick Neuheisel and Pete Carroll are already there- the better the case to be made.
Discuss:

No reason for not returning to that tradition. They used their home colors for decades without any officiating difficulties or player differentiating dilemmas so why was it ever abandoned? There is a world of difference between the light UCLA blue and the much darker (even in black and white) cardinal of the USC jerseys so what’s the problem?
If both Neuheisel and Carroll are agreeable, and the fans all want it, why should the NCAA complain?

Of course there’s no reason… but there’s no reason for the NCAA not to go to at least an and-one playoff, either (haha).
