After two very ugly seasons in LA, the Kings have fired head coach Marc Crawford, despite the fact he had one more year remaining on his contract.

“We appreciate Marc’s commitment the two seasons he has been here,” said Kings President and General Manager Dean Lombardi.  “However, we believe that in evaluating where we are at and, more importantly, where we are going as an organization, we feel this coaching change was the right decision to make.  We wish Marc the best in his future endeavors.”

The Kings finished at the bottom of the Western Conference in the 2007-2008 season, logging only 71 points, eight points behind the St. Louis Blues.  The previous season, Los Angeles had only 68 points.  More details are sure to emerge, but in a season where there were high hopes for progress with the organization’s young talent mixed with a few free agent signees, it’s no surprise to see Crawford’s head roll.
