Generally speaking, the WNBA makes front page news for only one rea– actually, the WNBA generally doesn’t make front page news, no matter what the story. That’s assuming, of course, said story isn’t about the sort of massive, bench clearing brawl centering around LA’s star rookie Candace Parker and involving players and coaches from both teams that took place Tuesday night in Detroit between the Sparks and Shock. Los Angeles won the game, 84-81, not that anyone will remember. Not after the Malice in the Palace, II. Nobody should be surprised that women were throwing punches- at this point, it’s safe to set aside dated notions of women as delicate flowers afraid to compete with the intensity of men- but it will be interesting to see the fallout. The suspensions, the media coverage, the impact it has on the league.
