Angels first baseman Mark Teixeira will, no matter where he lands this winter, become an extremely wealthy (wealthier, really) man. Ten years, $200 mil for the free-agent-to-be? Maybe, maybe not, but even half that ought to do him just fine. Given that Teixeira seems like a reasonable guy who appreciates that his decision will set him up for life- his, and just about anyone else’s that he’d like to fund- quality of life issues become paramount.

Kudos, then, to Angels CF Torii Hunter for mounting the Tex in ‘08! campaign, aiming to keep Teixeira in an Angels uni next year and beyond by making it his personal mission to sell the slugger on the virtues of life in the O.C. Fine dining. Beautiful beaches. Fantastic weather. The latter two, of course, go hand in hand, and Hunter is leaving no stone unturned. If Teixeira likes let it all hang out, it’s not a problem.

“You can get a tan,” he said yesterday to reporters. “You can tan naked if you want to.”

Not sure if that’s how Tex rolls, but you have to give Hunter credit for extending the appeal of the area beyond Knott’s Berry Farm and Fashion Island.
