Four weeks into the NFL season, the San Diego Chargers are 2-2 and something of an enigma, having lost a heartbreaker to Carolina in Week 1, and followed that with a ref-aided defeat in Denver before blowing away the Jets and overcoming a horrible first half to beat the Raiders on Sunday.  Many, including me, think with the injury to Tom Brady and Denver’s inability to stop anyone defensively, the Chargers are still the best team in the AFC. Yes, Tennessee and Buffalo are both 4-0 and clearly on the rise, but you’ll forgive me for not quite being sold on either as the cream of the crop.   The Bolts, though, have muddled through an early season filled with adversity.  Marcus McNeill and Nick Hardwick have both missed time on the O-line.  LT has the most famous toe in sports right now.  They’re starting to adjust their defensive schemes to account for the loss of Shawne Merriman, and this week will get Stephen Cooper back in the lineup.  As long as things continue to improve in the health (and, in Cooper’s case, behavior) department, they should thrive as the season marches on.

This week, it’s off to Miami to face a Dolphins team that in Week 3 went into New England and completely dismantled the Patriots and has had an off week to prepare and continue letting RB Ronnie Brown get whole.  Turns out the Fish don’t suck.  In a lot of ways, their obliteration of the AFC champs might help focus the Chargers ahead of a game they might have otherwise overlooked, meaning the craptastic effort that marked the first 30 minutes of the Raiders game ought not be repeated.
