Saints (4-4) at Falcons (5-3) — Sunday, 10:00 a.m. PST, FOX
One possible reason the Falcons are off to a surprising 5-win start, Roddy White no longer eats three or four No. 2 combos from McDonald’s. Another reason, they’re balanced offensively and becoming stingier by the week on defense. Saying they shut down the Raiders last week is an understatement, they held the Silver and Black to -2 yards in the first half. But this week will be a different test, the Saints, who’re 6th in the NFL in scoring (27 ppg), are rested and happy after returning from London with a win and a bye. Although Reggie Bush (knee) was officially ruled out, coach Sean Payton says receiver Marques Colston and tight end Jeremy Shockey are 100%.

Titans (8-0) at Bears (5-3) – Sunday, 10:00 a.m. PST, CBS
Kyle Orton with a bum ankle or Rex Grossman? That’s the dilemma facing Bears coach Lovie Smith heading into their match-up with undefeated Tennessee. To a certain extent it’s like choosing between eating a severely bruised apple and one that’s potentially poisionous. And while the Titans may not be the best team on paper, they sure do act like they’re the best team on the field. Defensively, they are. Albert Haynesworth, Keith Bullock and Courtland Finnegan head up each tier of a unit that’s ranked 1st in the NFL in total defense. The Bears, who’s defense has played uncharacteristically timid, must step up their execution on that side of the ball. Watch out for the running backs, Matt Forte (Bears) and Chris Johnson (Titans) are two of the league’s best rookies, and third-year man LenDale White has five TDs in his last three games.

Jaguars (3-5) at Lions (0-8) – Sunday, 10:00 a.m. PST, CBS
Can the Jags really shatter the hopes and dreams of two winless teams in back to back weeks? After clunking out of the gate against 0-8 Cincy last week, they missed a two-pointer inside of two minutes to lose 21-19. This time it’s the Lions who can use Jacksonville to get in the win column. Daunte Culpepper must’ve reallymissed the pay checks, I mean, the game, to un-retire for the situation in Motown. The Lions starter could be Drew Stanton, but the newly signed former 11th overall pick is still in the running. Either way, they are both terrible options. The Detroit Free-Press put the Lions’ awfulness in perspective on the midseason report card. Five units, including coach Rod Marinelli, received “Fs”.

Ravens (5-3) at Texans (3-5) — Sunday, 10:00 a.m. PST, CBS
Call this the Hurricane Ike game. Or the we were supposed to play this game in week two, but a natural disaster destroyed the roof of our stadium–game. Injuries have wrecked the Ravens secondary, which means Andre Johnson of the Texans could start a new 100-yard game streak. Ray Rice, who picked up his first career 100-yard rushing day last week in Cleveland, is emerging as a nice alternative to oft injured Willis McGahee.
LINE: BAL (-1), WEATHER: Reliant Stadium, Houston TX. Mostly sunny, 13 mph wind, 77-degrees.
Seahawks (2-6) at Dolphins (4-4) — Sunday, 10:00 a.m. PST, FOX
No team that plays in the Pacific time zone has traveled to east of Cleveland and won this year (0-12). Not that sleek trends are needed to predict the woeful Seahawks will get trampled in Miami. Brian Baldinger from NFL Network thinks Dolphins QB Chad Pennington is having his best season ever. The Seahawks can only dream about having a steady hand in control of their offense. With the revolving door behind injured starter Matt Hasselbeck, the Seahawks have thrown for a league-worst 141 yards per game. The Seattle Times reported that Hasselbeck practiced Friday, but it’s extremely unlikely that he’ll get the nod over Seneca Wallace.
LINE: MIA (-9), WEATHER:Dolphins Stadium, Opa Loca FL. Partly cloudy, 14 mph wind, 78-degrees.
Packers (4-4) at Vikings (4-4) — Sunday, 10:00 a.m. PST, FOX
Considering the Bears are playing the undefeated Titans, this game could mean a first place tie in the NFC North. Last week, coach Brad Childress remained patient with running back Adrian Peterson, who struggled for 36 yards in the first half. It paid off in the end, as the All-Pro averaged 10.3 yards per carry after half time to lead the Vikes past Houston. Green Bay’s rush defense is 28th in the league(146.4 ypg). The Packers have won the last two games in Minneapolis, but to do so this time they’ll have to keep Aaron Rodgers upright against a stout Vikings pass rush. The best way to curtail Jared Allen and Minnesota’s pressure, will be using Ryan Grant, who’s rushed for more than 80 yards four straight times, and his backup Brandon Jackson.
LINE: MIN (-2.5), WEATHER:Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, Minneapolis MN. Indoors.
Bills (5-3) at Patriots (5-3) — Sunday, 10:00 a.m. PST, CBS
Not too long ago, the Bills were the 5-1 darlings of the AFC. Their efficient QB, Trent Edwards, was leading a balanced offense, the defense was causing havoc and they had one of the best special teams units in the conference. Then Adrian Wilson knocked Edwards silly, injuries started piling up, they started losing home games and suddenly there’s a three-way tie atop the East (”Usually you pay double for that kind of action, Cotton.”) As much as we may love Chris Berman’s “Nobody circles the wagons” bit, things aren’t looking so cavalier in upstate New York. Against New England, Buffalo will be without four starters, including their top pass rusher Aaron Schobel. The Pats, who fell in Indianapolis last Sunday 18-15, don’t lose back-to-back games under wizard coach Bill Belichick. Expect to see QB Matt Cassel play a little more aggressive. Last week, he did not complete a pass longer than 15 yards until the 4th quarter, and Randy Moss had only six catches for 65 yards.
LINE: NE (-3.5), WEATHER:Gillette Stadium, Foxboro MA. Partly cloudy, 13 mph wind, 56-degrees.
Rams (2-6) at Jets (5-3) — Sunday, 10:00 a.m. PST, FOX
Check out the Jets schedule since their week five bye. They’ve played, brace yourself, the Bengals, Raiders (and lost), Chiefs (almost lost) and Bills. Okay, maybe that last one’s legit, but now they get the Rams. You’d think Texas Tech coach Mike Leach was generating his non-conference schedule. Steven Jackson’s out for the Rams, and former Jets practice squad running back Kenneth Darby’s in. Unless you need to fill out the final leg of a ten team parlay or haven’t realized the Rams left Los Angeles more than 13 years ago, there’s no reason to watch this game.
LINE: NYJ (-8), WEATHER: Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ. Mostly sunny, 12 mph wind, 55-degrees.
Colts (4-4) at Steelers (6-2) — Sunday, 1:15 p.m. PST, CBS
Both teams are coming off big wins in Week 9. The Colts held off New England 18-15and the Steelers dominated the Redskins, 23-6, on the road. Willie Parker is back in the line-up for Pittsburgh, but there are question marks at QB. Injured Ben Roethlisberger(shoulder) is probable, but if he can’t go Pittsburgh will start former first round pick Byron Leftwich. Leftwich has a long-winding throwing motion and has slow feet in the pocket, making him susceptible to the Colts pass rush. Against New England, defensive end Raheem Brock, not Dwight Freeney, was the star on the outside. Speaking of pass rushers, unless he’s out with a calf injury, keep an eye on outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley. He was fined $10,000 for a hit on Jason Campbell.
Expect the Steelers to jam Parker into the Colts defense, no matter who’s taking the snaps.
LINE: OFF, WEATHER: Heinz Field, Pittsburgh PA. Cloudy, 20% chance of rain, 12 mph wind, 44-degrees.
Giants (7-1) at Eagles (5-3) — Sunday, 5:15 p.m. PST, NBC
The NFC East could literally produce the game of the week 17 times this year. Since losing to Cleveland in week four, the Giants have been the cartoon He-Man, a ripped up, unblemished Master of the Universe. They boast the No. 5 offense and the league’s third best defense, led by Justin Tuck. First round draft choice Kenny Phillips will start his first NFL game in-place of the injured James Butler (knee). Eagles QB Donovan McNabb, who got off to a slow start in Seattle, will likely test Phillips deep with his own rookie, receiver DeSean Jackson. The biggest keys for Philly: force the Giants to adandon their running game and protect McNabb.
LINE: PHI (-3), WEATHER: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia PA. Mostly clear, 49-degrees.
49ers (2-6) at Cardinals (5-3) — Monday, 5:30 p.m. PST, ESPN
Five wins and three losses usually doesn’t earn you a three game division lead, but this year’s NFC West is a pathetic exception. Arizona’s offense is hot. In two games since their bye week, they’ve gained more than 400 yards, which is probably enough to get Mike Singeltary to take his pants AND shirt off. Rookie running back Tim Hightower seemingly has replaced Edgerin James in the backfield. Gary Horton of Scout’s Inc, calls Hightower a “one-cut and go runner who hits the hole decisiveness and explosiveness.” Shaun Hill gets the start for San Francisco, after J.T. O’Sullivan was benched by Singletary. If coordinator Mike Martz doesn’t alter his play-calling style, to mesh will with Hill’s strengths, the Cardinals may be working with a short field all night. And with that offense, the Cardinals might throw a 50 spot on the board.
LINE: ARZ (-9.5), WEATHER: University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale AZ. Clear, 70-degrees.
